Procare Solutions, the childcare management platform used by more than 40,000 centers, announced on September 14, 2026 that it has acquired Playground, a competing platform serving more than 5,000 programs. The deal brings two of the more recognizable names in childcare software under one roof, and it’s worth understanding what it actually changes, and what it doesn’t, for centers using either system.

Procare is a business unit of Roper Technologies, a large, publicly traded company, and it’s long been one of the biggest names in childcare management software, covering things like billing, attendance, and parent communication. Playground built a smaller but well-regarded platform of its own, including an AI assistant called Camber and a set of financial management tools that made it a popular pick for growing programs. Bringing the two together combines Procare’s scale with some of the more modern tools Playground had built.
Both companies have said there are no immediate changes for existing customers, and centers on either platform should be able to keep operating normally for now. That said, acquisitions like this often lead to gradual product changes over the following months as the two platforms get integrated. Deal terms weren’t disclosed, so it’s not yet clear how quickly that integration will happen.
This acquisition follows Procare’s own recent launch of RoomRunner, an AI tool for enrollment planning, and it fits a broader pattern of consolidation and AI investment across childcare software right now. Larger platforms are absorbing smaller, more specialized ones, and AI features are becoming a bigger part of what these platforms compete on.

There’s no need to panic or switch platforms based on this news alone. It’s a reasonable moment to back up your own data regardless of which platform you’re on, ask your account rep directly about any planned changes, and keep an eye on official communications from either company over the next few months rather than relying on secondhand reports.
Software consolidation like this is common in growing industries, and it’s rarely as disruptive as it first sounds. If you want help thinking through automated parent communication or any other part of your center’s operations, regardless of which platform you’re on, book a strategy discussion with Cool Clique and let’s talk it through.
